With winter comes cold, harsh, chappy wind. For me it seems to effect my lips more than anything. I moisturize my face and apply Chapstick at night before I go to bed but sometimes that's not enough.
Nothing looks worse than dry peeling lips. Rather it be under lipstick, gloss or just natural you don't have to put up with the ugliness!! Of course there are about 1,000 products you can buy to exfoliate lips, but I really enjoy the DIY homemade things. And why spend the money when you can use things you already have in your kitchen!?!
To make this DIY lip exfoliant you'll need four things:
1 tbs Olive oil
1 tbs Sugar
1 tbs Honey
And lip balm of your preference.
(Some say use brown sugar, but honestly I don't think it matters. I personally use organic cane sugar because I use it for my face exfoliant also)
You simply mix the oil, sugar and honey together and rub on your lips. I generally rub for about 10-20 seconds. Then rinse! When you're finished exfoliating, be sure to apply some form of lip balm to moisturize.
Obviously you can use and lip balm you want but I personally have only been using a specific two for about a year now.
The first, and my favorite, is the Rose Salve sold at Bath and Body Works. (Love that place!!) Its really cheap. Like $5 and if you have ever spent any time in BBW you know they run awesome sales all of the time. Anyway, this stuff is amazing. It smells incredible and it's so smooth. It's thick but not sticky. It says on the container that you can use it on other parts of your body but I have never tried that. I would highly recommended this to anyone, especially if you have dry lips. This is the balm I use before bed every night.
Also, I love that it comes in a cute little tin container!
The other favorite is the EOS lip balm in sweet mint. This is my day time lip balm. It's so cutely packaged and perfect for just throwing in your purse. The reason I like it for day time is because the smell is so refreshing. Also this lip balm is very light so your lips don't feel caked up like they do with the Chapstick lip balm. It's super moisturizing also. They make a huge varity of "flavors" and they come out with new ones all of the time. It says that its 95% organic which I also really like. And lastly it's also really cheap. It's like $2-$4 depending on where you buy it.
Thanks for reading everyone!! I hope your lips stay beautiful this winter!
