Hey Everyone!
What a week it's been. It's always one thing after another. We all feel this way and struggle with stressors so this is nothing more than an encouragement post!
I'm here to say it's okay!! We l have different jobs, roles and responsibilities in the crazy thing called life and each come with there own amount of crazy!
I for one have school, a husband, a job(s), a toddler and so much more. It's easy to become overwhelmed and freak out. I was feeling a little down and or the last few days when I stepped outside today! It completely changed my mood. It was gorg out today!! It made me happy. It gave me a boost of energy. It motivated me. And, last but far from least, gave me something to look forward to...Summer!! Ugh goodness. I can not wait. I am a summer lover! Hands down. There is no I kinda like winter. No. If I could have it summer all year Lord knows I would!
As you may know I live in Southeast Texas so we basically have 2 seasons with a few minor "sub-seasons."
It goes like this:
Season #1
Mid to late Decemeber to March sometime = Winter. In our Winters it gets down to a staggering...ehh...maybe, MAYBE 20. This is actually rare. This year it hit in the 20's a few times and it was mostly at night and it didn't stay that way but like 2-3 days and yes everything around us shut down (roads, schools, stores...no lie). However, most of our Winter season weather is like 50's and 60's. If you live up North and are reading this, I know, I sound crazy. Anyway, when it hits like 70 here I'm cold. I'm wearing pants and close toed shoes carrying a sweater. When it gets into the 50's I'm freezing! I have jackets and pants and boots and a hat/beanie. Anything under 50, forget it! I'm staying inside and preferably in bed. But it's only a few months so I deal with it.
Season #2
April/May until about November = Summer!! Whoop! That's what I love. I love that it's so long. I live that it's warm. I love that I have a beach and lake and rivers close. Yes! Just yes. Now completely opposite of our terrible winter "weather" we have our unbearable summer weather too. These are the days it reaches over 95. Those days aren't so wonderful. Still better than cold but goodness are they rough. It gets HOT here. Real hot. Last year the highest it got was I think was 105. This (to me) doesn't sound THAT hot but because of where I live and because the Gulf is so close the humidity is ridiculous and it can easily make it feel 5-10 degrees hotter than it actually is. There is never a day here where the humidity doesn't make it feel hotter. So yea, it can get bad here.
Our "sub-seasons":
Now clearly this is a joke. We obviously have 4 seasons just like every other place but because they are so extreme we like to say there are two seasons. I personally call the others sub-season because, really, sometimes you don't even know you went through a whole other season, except for maybe the seasonal decor at the stores.
Sub-season #1
Fall. This can last like November to December here if that. Seriously. Last year I wore shorts and flip flops on both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Sub-season #2
Spring. I guess you could call today a "Spring" day. It was 77. Even right now I'm sitting outside writing this and it's 64 (and yes I'm cold.) In other words, days like today are the closest thing to Spring that we get.
Now we do have a few hidden times of year. Like...
The Dry Season - generally May-September. When I say dry I mean dry. Like crunchy grass. Fires EVERYWHERE. Burn Bans. The works. But then comes...
The Rainy Season - generally Novemeber - January. It's wet. Plus cold so it double sucks. This is really the only time of year we are pretty certain that it WILL rain enough to soak the ground.
So as you can see our weather is crazy. Which brings me back to my original point, days like today are something beautiful. It has been so cold for so long it seems and then today happened. A small ray or sunshine that certainly brightened my week. It was so nice to break out some shorts. It also reminded me that I need to start working out...but hey, whatever. I love that something so small changed my mood so much! I'm thankful that in this crazy and stressful world something so small still can change my mood like this!
My word of advice for today, try to find something positive tomorrow that will bring back the happiness this week! The weather, a book, a bath even a new product or piece of clothing. Be thankful. De-stress yourself.
Thanks everyone! Stay beautiful,
EBR
