So I have recently (as in this week) went from med/dark brown to very light blonde. I always dye my hair myself. I always have. I dot know why. I just seem to be happier with it when I do it. Anyway, we all know what happened when brown hair is forever into blonde-ness, especially it it's dyed brown hair (like mine was) -- orange, red, gold and brassy tones. Blehh. Gross. I was excepting this so it wasn't a surprise like it is to most people. However, there is a simple fix - toner. It seems like magic to ugly brass tones. So here's how I toned down my new blonde hair.
I went to Sally's and bought the following:
A mixing bowl
An application brush
20 developer
Wella Color Charm T14
I went home, mixed them together and applied! The directions say to leave it in for 30 min but I didn't. I kept reading and people said not to because it'll give you a grey tone. Word of advice, just listen to the box. Even if t does give you a purple/blue/grey tone it WILL fade and wash away. I left mine on for about 15-20 min but I wish I would have left it on the full 30. Anyway, it took out a lot of the brassy as red tones. I mean a lot. I can still see some in my hair but again, I didn't leave it on the full time and the parts still yellow or golden-ish are the parts that have been dyed brown for over a year now. Here is a before and after picture.
WHOA!!! Talk about a difference. I'm much happier with the color now. Like I said I excepted it to turn red, I knew it was going to happen. It's going to take more than a week to go from brown to platinum blonde but I certainly lightened it a great deal and it looks awesome!! I'll be doing another post on how exactly I did it (products) later on. But for now I just wanted to show you how awesome the toner it.
Stay beautiful!

P.S. Here is the color change in my har.
